This sculpture features an open book with a tree in front of it. The artwork represents the joy of reading, provides a shaded seating area and creates a strong visual image for those traversing Bullard Road and entering the library.
The artist, Joe Tyler graduated from Arizona State University with a Master of Science degree in Environmental Horticulture in 1972. He owned and operated a nursery in Surprise for 15 years, developing his love of plant life which can be seen in the strong botanical influences found in most of his work.
