The July title is, Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. About the book: Said to be heavily influenced by Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre, Rebecca is told from the point of view of the unsophisticated second Mrs. Maxim de Winter, who enters the home of her mysterious and enigmatic new husband and learns the story of the house's first mistress, Rebecca. Though she drowned off the coast near the mansion, Rebecca's spirit still seems to pervade the house, especially as the sinister housekeeper remains unnaturally devoted to her, and undermines her new mistress at every opportunity. When Rebecca was first published in 1938, Kirkus Reviews said that "a haunting sense of impending tragedy keeps one breathless to the end. (Novelist).
